Actually was there to view the Yukon before sinking. Not sure what state it is in now, as it has been over 20+years since it was sunk / dove. There were local schoolchildren that did murals in the ship when it was at harbor for decon of all potential harmful chemicals still abroad. The real main turret barrel was not on the ship due to security concerns, so a lamp post was affixed to give the impression of a turret barrel. Other than that, from memory, there was suppose to be a national competition for board game "battleship" and the kid winner would be able to "sink the Yukon" . But rough swells brought the ship down on her side overnight, when the cut-outs to dive in and out of were too close to the waterline. There was hope to have it go straight down and sit right up at the seabed. Actually was a fun dive, that kind of messes with your head since it keeled over and travelling up stairwells sideways, had a weird vertigo, as you travel one way but bubbles travel the other way. Brain had a hard time with the difference. Definitely a dive if you can do it though.

I've dove in 1.5 pH sulfuric acid, with Miller hard hat and drysuit. Turned the yellow hard hat olive green, and bleached the red/navy rental drysuit to shades of gray. But, we got the valve fixed! Also, stay away from any sulfide layers, as they will eat the chrome off your regulator and valves. In the Great Lakes, a 5mm skin-in wetsuit (like Henderson Gold Core) is usually good for most dives above the thermocline (at ~60 feet), and short dives below. For paddling on lakes, recommend full 0.5 - 3mm wetsuit and boots if there's any floating green algae in summer, and thicker 5 - 7mm in fall/winter/spring. Yes, it will be hot in summer, but not getting poisoned by the algae is the best. I've had exposed skin go numb up to where the wetsuit covered the skin. Anatoxin A (also known as VFDF (very fast death factor)) is not something to play with!

Mo-no lake Not mon-o lake. Drove by this lake as a kid going camping with parents to Yosemite, and remember the lake full with a resort and sailboats out on the water. Now after years of L.A. taking water from the streams that flow into the lake it is rather low. It has come up a bit in the last few years but nothing like it used to be. I wouldn't swim in that water if you paid me. Yuck.

@AzulUnlimited I would like to inquire about sharing data to a local blog post. This video is so useful. So I shared it with some close divers, but they didn't really understand the content. Because RUclips's automatic translation did not work well. For that reason, I translated this content and posted it on a Korean blog site. Of course, I recorded the source at the end of the article so that it links to RUclips. [Azul Unlimited] 수중 부력조절 요령 m.blog.naver.com/joyrunner/223534749885 I would like to keep this post going and would like to hear your opinions. Thank you.

I’ve swam (basically floated) in Mono lake a couple of times- be sure to put vaseline on your lips and on any cuts before you get in and bring fresh water to rinse off afterwards. I wore my regular swim goggles but be careful when taking them off so the salt water doesn’t run into your eyes. It’s crazy seeing all the little brine shrimp looking back at you! It’s a fun, unique and beautiful place.

I've swam around in Mono a bit, and kayaked a bunch. Can confirm the puffy lips from an early foray; I tend to keep my head out these days. Regardless, everything needs a THOROUGH rinse off afterwards. Easy to float though, so that's fun. Sorta the opposite of Crater Lake, where you sink so fast it's downright terrifying.

Overall pretty good tips, however I disagree with your breathing. A normal breath. Slow and deep like the book says is wrong. I'll compare my methods with anyones anyday and anytime. Deep makes people ascent at the end of exhalation, not good for photography or hunting. IMO

There is another kind of drift/current dive that is quite common in the Netherlands in The Eastern Scheldt river (Oosterschelde), and there's likely many other places this is done. The river is a tidal estuary and you plan your dive around high or low tide. This, when planned around high tide, results in the current taking you inland for the first half of your dive, and seaward for the second half. The inverse would happen around low tide. You exit where you entered the water.

Its really not that bad I've swam in mono many times, I wouldn't recommend the hot spring at navy beach though (super high in arsenic and other nasty stuff, also its just a mud hole). Its pretty cool to kayak around the tufa though it's an oddly eerie experience. One of my favorite times at mono we were chilling at navy beach cooling off after hiking Panum crater and there was a suv coming so I told my friends watch this. I ran over to the truck and grabbed my fishing pole cast out and started pretending to fish, when the car showed up it was some dumbasses from socal and the first thing out of their mouths was "how's the fishing?" I popped open the cooler and showed them all the fish we'd caught on the loop that morning. They were all excited getting their gear out to catch the big one while we were pulling out, I'm probably an asshole but we had some good laughs around the campfire that night lol.

The Ph of Mono Lake is between 9 - 10. The US Department of Transportation and EPA deem a chemical corrosive <2 and >12.5. The Mono Lake water are sufficient alkaline and corrosive enough to damage aluminum and other metals, as well as your skin! You are very brave, and I appreciate your sacrifice to bring us this outstanding video. Thank you!
